March 6th, 2021 Let’s Talk Science virtual event for educators on Artificial Intelligence

Feb 3rd, 2021 Virtual Event. Giving a keynote and Q&A at the Local Government Leadership Academy, put on by the Union of BC Municipalities. Looking forward to learning more about how local governments are responding to the lessons of the Pandemic.

October 1st, 2019 Back in Waterloo for the University’s Innovation Summit. Emceeing the event, and thrilled to be interviewing Nobel Laureate Donna Strickland!

Sept 20th-22nd, 2019 Waterloo Great event! Attending and speaking at the Fluxible UX conference! Super fun.

May 15th, 2019 The Canadian Urban Transit Association is holding their annual conference in beautiful St. John’s NL, where I’ll be doing a keynote. Should be a great opportunity to learn about innovation in public transit.

May 9th, 2019 Hosting the Innovators’ Challenge in Vancouver benefiting the Vancouver General Hospital and UBC Hospital Foundation.

November 5th, 2018 Thrilled to be headed to Vancouver for the Peter Wall Institute for Advanced Studies’ lecture series, Wall Exchange. I’ll be moderating an evening with Rosalind Picard, leading light in affective computing, about emotions and our relationship to robots and AI. Free public event.

September 29th, 2018 Community Learning Network Symposium, Edmonton. This conference is for community based adult learning programs throughout Alberta.

September 22nd, 2018 The Ontario Association of Consultants, Counsellors, Psychometrists and Psychotherapists, Toronto. I’m moderating a panel discussion on technology and mental health. This is a growing interest area for me (both the use of technology in maintaining mental health, and the impact of tech on mental health), so I’m looking forward to learning a lot.

June 6th, 2018 In Hamilton for the Municipal Information Systems Association conference. This was a super interesting look at how municipalities are working with things like Smart Cities and responsive government. Inspiring!

May 2nd, 2018 Boy, do I love Newfoundland, so very happy to be going to St. John’s for the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner’s conference. This is a free and open conference. More details to come.

November 17th, 2017 I’ve been expanding my talks into looking at creativity and innovation, so very pleased to be speaking at the University of New Brunswick’s Creative Connections conference.

June 6th/7th, 2017 Panelist at the Canadian Federation of Nurses conference, Calgary. Technology and Health is becoming a strong interest of mine. Hope to learn a lot!

May 12th/13th On stage interview as part of Culturenext, the Canadian Arts Summit. Charlottetown. Interviewing Robert Lepage!!

April 27th, 2016 Partners in Prevention conference. I’m giving the keynote in Toronto.

December 7th, 2015 The Ontario Hospital Association presents a conference on the latest in social media: best practices, new trends, and top ways to engage. I’m giving the keynote here in Toronto.

November 23rd, 2015 The New Brunswick Social Policy Research Foundation brings folks from diverse fields together for the GovMaker conference. The goal is to encourage research into the digital economy, partnerships, and citizen engagement around our digital future. I’m giving a keynote.

Oct 24th, 2015 Public Event This should be very cool. I’m emcee-ing the B3D conference on 3D technologies and best practices. Presenters include Ed Burtynsky and Brigitte Shim.

Sept 3rd, 2015 Public Event Delighted to go back to Charlottetown for the J.S. Palmer conference at UPEI.

May 21st, 2015 Public Event McMaster University in Hamilton has a great Health Forum initiative, which brings together their expertise and public education. They are presenting a public event where I’ll be doing the keynote. Details to follow.

April 28th, 2015 A busy day! In the morning, I’m speaking to folks at Mohawk College in Hamilton, as they think about how technological change relates to their work as educators. Should be a fascinating event. In the evening, I’m speaking at a conference associated with The Health Line. I’ll be talking about the potential for new technologies in promotion of, and access to, public health resources. I’m honoured to be part of this important event.

April 11th, 2015 Public Event I’m moderating a panel on The Quantified Self, as part of the Spur festival, a national festival about politics and ideas. The Toronto event this year is called Alone Together, focusing on our relationship to technologies. Read more about my panel here.

November 20th, 2014 Public Event The University of New Brunswick runs a great series of talks under the banner The Andrews Initiative. I’m delighted to be in Fredericton to talk about Big Data, self-tracking, and the importance of ‘data democracy’. It’s a free, public event, and you can find out more here.

October 21st, 2014 Public Event Toronto Life magazine is running a cool series of public events this fall, and I’m excited to be hosting their technology evening. We’re bringing together five hugely successful tech entrepreneurs and VCs for a deep dive into what it takes to succeed in the startup world. Followed by a cocktail reception and a chance to rub shoulders with these tech world stars. Find out more here!

February 26th, 2014 I’ll be giving a keynote to the Canadian Association for University Continuing Education in Toronto.

February 5th, 2014 Public Event I’ll be doing two readings/presentations on themes from my book at the University of Victoria, including an interview as part of the very cool-sounding Open Space program. Details here

January 30th, 2014 The Conference Board of Canada has asked me to speak on navigating the future of IT. I’m looking forward to the round table afterwards – a great learning opportunity for me.

November 20th, 2013 Excited to be giving a guest lecture at the University of Toronto. They have a great course on the internet and society.

October 24th, 2013, Alberta Library, Calgary: Woo! More great conversations with librarians anticipated at their 2013 Netspeed Conference.

October 10th and 11th, 2013 B.C. Privacy Commission Office Conference, Vancouver: I’m moderating a panel on Big Data at Privacy and Access 20/20. The agenda looks fascinating. We’ll be recording some content for Spark there, too.

October 4th, 2013 Kootenay Library Federation: I always love talking with librarians, and looking forward to this conference.
