Now if Only He Could Put Them in Clown Makeup and Get ‘Em Krumping

Nothing to get one’s mind off work woes that an all-out bitch fest courtesy of celebrity photographer and director of the doc, Rize. NY Daily News reports http://www.nydailynews.com/news/gossip/story/344314p-293981c.html that David LaChapelle said recently of the Simpson sisters (not Lisa and Maggie)

“They’re everything that’s wrong with music…Out of everything combined, they’re everything wrong with culture, and everything wrong with art, and what we think of as art and musical culture – in one family!”

“They’re nothing. They have nothing. They hold no interest whatsoever for anybody…..They’re reality-red-carpet, lip-synching television stars. I don’t know what they are beyond that. I don’t think they offer anything.”

What, you think just anyone can wear ass padding in a pair of cutoff jeans? Apparently, Ashlee and Jessica refused to pose for him for a Rolling Stone cover. Hence the high hat from M. LaChapelle. And the clincher:

“We were going to try and make the Simpsons look cool. I realize now that is an impossible task.”

OK, because he directed Rize, I think we can all overlook that LaChapelle directed music videos for, among others, the lip-synching, reality TV-ing Britney Spears. Still, doesn’t David LaChapelle, as a photographer, actually love pop culture detritus?

So much of what he does is play with the sexual and celebrity hype around ‘stars’, some with talent, some without. I think he’s just angry because they would have been such perfect subjects for him. Maybe Jessica and Ashlee are smarter than we think, or maybe it’s hard to be self-mocking when everyone is making fun of you.
